Self-Care Post #4

(Can’t go to a spa? Bring the spa to you!)

Happy Sunday again everyone! I hope this post finds you happy and healthy! Thanks for being back for Self-Care Post #4. Most of us, if not all of us, would love to spend an entire day at a spa for pampering, facial treatments and other indulgences. But that may not be possible whether it’s due to not having the time or the money. Here are some DIY facial mask recipes that may bring a little bit of the spa to you! I love natural face mask recipes and most of them can be made with ingredients that you can find in your kitchen or pantry and they can feed, nourish, and refresh your skin.

Honey and Oatmeal Mask: Ingredients: two tablespoons of ground oatmeal, one tablespoon of honey, and a splash of water. Oatmeal is very calming for the skin, and honey can naturally kill bacteria and moisturize. (I make a wonderful homemade facial soap with oatmeal, honey and goat’s milk soap that is wonderful for dry, irritated skin. Please message me for the recipe! It’s a super easy DIY soap to make!)

Cucumber and Aloe Vera Mask. Ingredients: two tablespoons of plain yogurt and one teaspoon of turmeric powder. Turmeric is a wonderful element for reducing inflammation and yogurt is a gentle exfoliant and can brighten your skin.

Avocado and Honey Mask. Ingredients: Half of a mashed avocado and one drop of honey. Avocado is rich in healthy fats and other vitamins that nourish the skin and honey keeps it moisturized.

To apply the mask, use your fingers or a clean makeup brush to evenly spread the mask on your face and make sure to avoid your eyes.

A great tip: run a warm bath with epsom salts and a couple drops of your favorite essential oil, play some soft soothing music, and light some candles and relax in the bath with the face mask on for 10-15 minutes. Place a cucumber slice on your eyelids and let everything works its magic!

Rinse off the mask carefully with warm water and a soft cloth. Pat dry and apply your favorite moisturizer.

***Before applying a face mask recipe to your entire face, test a small amount on an area of skin to ensure you do not have a reaction to any of the ingredients.

RECIPE: Grilled chicken wrap with hummus and avocado.

Ingredients: Cooked chicken breast, tortilla made with whole wheat, avocado, hummus, lettuce, slices of tomato.

Preparation: On the tortilla, spread the hummus. On top, arrange grilled chicken, avocado slices, lettuce, and tomato. Firmly roll and secure with toothpicks. Before serving, cut the wrap in half and enjoy.
