Happy Friday Everyone! I hope you all have had a great week and I sincerely hope that you were not affected by the severe weather that hit our heartland this week. Thanks for visiting for self care post #5 that I have entitled “Let’s Get Crafty.”
A fun way to invest in yourself is by learning a new crafting skill or taking up a new hobby. It is a wonderful way to learn, reveal creative expression, and find what your true talents and interests are. Artistic pursuits are fantastic for mental health and satisfying.
Examples: Painting, Sketching, Drawing. Great ways to express yourself through color and capture the world around you on paper or canvas.
Knitting or Crocheting. Express yourself through making handmade items such as blankets, hats, towels, and more. A wide variety of ready made kits for beginner through advanced are available.
Photography. (One of my favorite hobbies). It is truly a wonderful way to decompress and connect with nature.
Gardening. Growing your own food and vegetables.
Cooking or Baking. A truly great way to be creative with ingredients, spices, recipes, flavors.
Writing. Could be a short story, a poem, start a blog π Learn how to record your thoughts, quotes you see and want to remember in a journal.
Pottery.
DIY Projects. Refurbish a piece of furniture. Paint a room.
BENEFITS: Having a creative outlet is a good way to relieve stress. Learning a new craft can help cognitive skills. Build your self-esteem when you make something original. If you decide to join a group that shares the same hobby or craft, you promote social interaction.
Udemy, Coursera, YouTube, Google, Tik Tok, and Pinterest and wonderful places to research classes and lessons for a variety of subjects.
Go to your public library as there will often be a community board or brochure with class offerings.
Stop by your local craft store as many of them will offer monthly classes for learning a new craft.
You may just open up a whole new world for yourself!
