Create an emergency preparedness plan.
Having grown up in Western New York, and then having lived in Minnesota and Colorado…three states where snowy weather is common, we always kept a winter weather kit in our vehicles. It consisted of a set of jumper cables, a tow rope, battery operated flashlight, orange road cones, a heavy coat, extra hat, gloves, boots, and a small shovel (in case we encountered someone stuck in the snow and had to clear snow from around the tires) and a bag of sand or water softener pellets to keep the back of the vehicle weighted to avoid sliding on ice!
