I grew up in a very small town in upstate New York. We had no car while I was growing up. This meant we did not travel anywhere or leave town. The only exception was going to summer camp with my church youth group on the bus. I left that small town for college in Pensacola, Florida. To afford college, I stayed there year round. I worked in the summers on the campus to pay my tuition. It was hard being away from family. However, the life experiences and cultural exposure were worth it. I also gained lifelong friends and met my husband. Those four years will always be magical memories for me.
