We were extremely poor when I was growing up. We could get four boxes of generic mac and cheese for $1. My mom it alot but if she had extra money, she would do add ins to make it special. Such as cut up hot dogs, a packet of tuna fish, and if we were splurging, she would add ground beef with a can of tomato sauce!

Lemon and Rosemary 
Mac & cheese was the first thing I thought of too. It was my favorite comfort food, and when my girls were little and we were broke, I could add a hotdog or bacon or tuna or peas to give it a little extra something š

I love this! When my kids were growing up, they knew this story about mac and cheese and when my mom would visit, they would ask “Grandma Pat to make her special mac and cheese!” š
