Homeschooling my children

Homeschooling is not for everyone. It requires careful thought and prayer and a commitment to the process and discipline. I homeschooled all three of children from kindergarten to high school graduation. For 20 years I learned along with them, each with a unique learning style. The science experiments, the tough math problems, the frustrations when days didn’t go smoothly. I grew through the sacrifice.

My Son (My gentle giant)

My youngest son (who is 23) is also high-functioning autistic. He works part-time for Target and is a very empathetic soul and hates to see people that are hurting. One day, I had a particularly difficult day at work. After dinner, I went to my desk to write and catch up on news. There on my desk, was a note and $5. “Mom. I am sorry work was so hard. Here is some of my money to buy coffee to feel better.”

Rest…It’s Good for the Soul

In our non-stop digital age, it can be almost impossible to find downtime and “unplug” ourselves and just rest. But it is necessary for mind, body and soul.

Be encouraged by this 1-minute video devotional based on the Jesus 365 series.

“International House of Lainey”

My favorite restaurant….MY HOUSE. 🙂

I love to cook and nothing beats a home cooked meal and conversation. With the work schedules my family keeps, a meal together is a treasured rarity so I eat it up any chance I get (no pun intended)

What is your favorite restaurant?

Definitely the opposite of what I am doing now! :-)

NOT working for someone else

I would like to be living out in the country on a few acres. It would be in a home we built with a hobby farm. Most definitely, we would have some goats!

Would love to have an RV to be traveling the US visiting historical sites.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

A different kind of learning….

I was in high school in the mid to late 80’s and I was homeschooled. Which at that time, was a rarity. I did my classes in the mornings. I biked to my job in the afternoons. I took care of my grandmother on the weekends. Prom was never a thing, I wasn’t on any sports team. But I learned the importance of taking care of family. I became an independent worker. I learned how to balance responsibilities. I also learned to value education and hard work.
