Thank you for your influence….

#1 – The Lord. His example and his words guide everything I do.

#2 – My mom. My dad left her high and dry when I was 7 years old. She didn’t wallow in her self-pity, but sucked it up, worked two jobs to raise 3 girls on her own and found ways to still give to others even when it seemed we couldn’t afford to share.

#3 – My father-in-law. Although he did not have a formal college degree, he knew something about everything, was the charter member/founder of our church, worked his whole life for the same company.

Deadly Secret on Diamond Island – Chapter Three

A Strange Encounter

The sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple as Margarite and Natalie walked along the beach. The sand was warm beneath their feet, and the air was filled with the scent of salt and tropical flowers. It was a scene straight out of a dream, a paradise that had seemed too good to be true.

“I still can’t believe we’re actually here,” Natalie said, her voice filled with wonder. “Diamond Island. It’s like something out of a movie.”

Margarite, ever the pragmatist, chuckled. “I know, right? It’s like they pulled all the best bits of the Caribbean and squeezed them into one place. It’s almost too perfect.”

“Almost,” Natalie agreed, a slight shiver running down her spine. “There’s something about this place… It’s beautiful, yes, but it feels… off.”

Margarite shrugged. “Maybe it’s just the jetlag. We’ve been traveling for hours.”

They continued walking, their bare feet sinking into the soft sand. The beach stretched out before them, pristine and deserted, the only sound the gentle lapping of waves against the shore.

As they approached a rocky outcrop, a figure emerged from the shadows……(Continued)

Wisdom for Daily Living – Proverbs 13:4

Devotional thoughts for a new week (excerpt from my current blog – 30 Days of Proverbs for Wise Living)

Diligence, Integrity, and Work Ethic:
The wisdom literature of the Bible, particularly the Book of Proverbs, offers profound insights into navigating the complexities of life, including the crucial area of work and finances. This section delves into the principles of diligence, integrity, and a strong work ethic as presented within the proverbs, emphasizing their relevance to our modern professional lives and their vital connection to a life pleasing to God.

Proverbs repeatedly underscores the value of hard work. The familiar Proverb, “The lazy person desires but has nothing, while the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied.” (Proverbs 13:4 NIV), eloquently captures the essence of this principle. Diligence isn’t merely about putting in long hours; it’s about a commitment to excellence, a dedication to producing quality work, and a proactive approach to tasks. It speaks to a mindset that embraces responsibility and sees work not as a burden but as an opportunity for growth, contribution, and even worship. This isn’t a justification for workaholism, but a call to a disciplined and purposeful approach to our professional endeavors, acknowledging God’s blessings and provision in our labor. Consider the farmer who diligently tills the soil, plants the seeds, and tends to the crops. Their harvest isn’t guaranteed, but their diligence significantly increases the likelihood of a bountiful yield, mirroring the spiritual yield, mirroring the spiritual principle of sowing and reaping.

The concept of diligence is further amplified in Proverbs 10:4: “Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.” This isn’t a promise of financial riches for every diligent worker, but a recognition of the connection between effort and outcome. The passage emphasizes that a lack of diligence leads to negative consequences, while consistent effort typically yields positive results. This principle extends beyond mere natural wealth; it encompasses the fulfillment and satisfaction that comes from completing tasks well, contributing to something meaningful, and experiencing the sense of accomplishment that diligent work brings. The satisfaction of a job well done isn’t just a personal reward; it reflects God’s design for human flourishing and potential.

Beyond diligence, integrity forms the cornerstone of a righteous work ethic. Proverbs 11:3 reminds us: “The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithfulness of the treacherous destroys them.” Integrity in the workplace involves honesty, transparency, and ethical conduct in all aspects of our professional lives. It’s about upholding moral principles even when faced with temptation or pressure to compromise our values. This might involve resisting the urge to cut corners, to inflate accomplishments, or to engage in deceptive practices for personal gain. It requires a commitment to fairness, accountability, and respect for others, creating a positive and trustworthy work environment. In an era often characterized by ethical compromises and a pursuit of quick profits, upholding integrity becomes a powerful testament to our faith, demonstrating the transformative power of God’s grace in our professional lives.

Not to sound cliche…my husband

Describe a man who has positively impacted your life.

It would have to be my husband. He persevered through a year that would have undone most other men.  The loss of his dad, being unemployed for most of the year and working three side gigs 7 days a week to keep providing, and just not giving up.  My encouragement to anyone out there in the midst of life’s struggles, keep going. You can make it.
