“A Sacrifice of Praise”

#newweekinspiration #devotional #praise #thanksgivingmonth

The last crops have been harvested, and the fields now lie fallow. The bare branches of many trees wave at us in the wind, and the remaining leaves cannot linger much longer. Morning frosts etch their icy signature across the landscape out our window. The holidays are quickly approaching, and plans are already in motion for family dinners, office parties, church programs, and community events. Now, before the festive season of busy celebration descends, it’s good to focus on praising God and thanking God for this past year. He’s given you so much and brought you so far. Think about how this year began and all the obstacles that you didn’t anticipate. You’ve hit a few bumps in the road, but the Lord has remained faithful to lead, guide, and direct your paths. Give him praise for the many blessings of family, friends, work, home, church in your life. Before you start rushing, and get caught up in the bustle, think through what you’ve been given. Asl God to give you a calm center from which you can approach the coming weeks, giving him thanks and praise for all that’s ahead.

Hebrews 13:15 “…let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise…”

That I am kind, authentic

What’s the first impression you want to give people?

One, that my smiling positive personality is authentic. I get told often that no one can be that “smiley and upbeat” all the time.  But that is truly me.  It takes waaaay more energy to be negative and cross and that’s just not me.  Two, that I am kind, especially on behalf of anyone who is bullied, mistreated behind a sales counter, etc

Reading about a real hero and a fictional hero

What book are you reading right now?

I am reading two things right now.  A Bible study through the book of Philippians and getting through difficult times and learning from them.

Then I am reading Code Red by Vince Flynn (a Mitch Rapp thriller). One of my favorite fictional series of all time.

A cat and a church

What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever found (and kept)?

Our cat Bandit passed away from a stroke and our senior cat Whiskers needed a quiet older companion. We found Oliver at a rescue shelter. 11 years old and he has been adopted and returned twice. He’s now been with us for 4 years .

After several months of searching in our new state of Washington we found a fabulous church that is friendly, welcoming and lifts our spirits every time we walk in the door!

Several encounters of the political kind

Who is the most famous or infamous person you have ever met?

My husband and I have been involved in politics off and on for over 30 years.  In that time, we personally met George Bush Sr. and Dan Quayle, Phil Gramm, and my favorite:  Bob Dole. We got to get a photo with him, shake his hand and thank him for his service to our country. I still have his autograph.
