“Monday Musings” – Second Installment

Happy Memorial Day Everyone! If you had the gift of a three day weekend, I hope it was happy and safe and took a moment to remember those who have served and have paid the ultimate sacrifice for us.

Welcome to the start of a new week! This is the second installment of our Monday Musings series.

Today’s Life Hacks: If you want to declutter the cupboard area under your sink along with getting cleaning supplies out of the reach of children, take a hanging shoe rack and hang it inside a pantry or on the back of the door and use the pockets for storage. Need a better way to store rolls of wrapping paper? Put them inside a garment bag and hang the bag in a closet. They are now neatly tucked away until you need them.

Today’s Recipe: Grape-Melon Smoothie. Take 1 cup of diced honeydew, 1 cup of diced cantaloupe, 1 cup of green seedless grapes, 1/4 cup of 100% orange juice, Juice of 1 lime, 1 teaspoon honey. In a blender, add the honeydew, cantaloupe, grapes, orange juice, lime juice, and honey and blend until smooth. Pour into a tall glass and serve.

Today’s Inspirational Quote: “Success consists of doing the common things of life uncommonly well.” Anon

Have a great week. I hope to see you next Monday for the next installment of Monday Musings.

A prompt that made me smile and groan in remembering

Do you remember life before the internet?

This prompt made me both smile and groan….in 1993 my husband and I had just gotten married.  I remember getting our first desktop computer, almost $2,000 at the time (our kids’ jaws drop every time we retell it) and installing AOL for access and email and the signature sound of it connecting.  I groan because we had just graduated college and I think of all the Friday nights spent with card catalogs, books spread out doing research, writing citations on 3 x 5 cards.   That was definitely not a simpler time 🤣

Being content with “enough”

What does “having it all” mean to you? Is it attainable?

For a long time having it all to me meant all the money, all the power, all the fame, all the attention. If we were to truly have it all, then ambition, drive, growth all stop.  I have found that for me personally I am content knowing my material possessions are enough, food to eat, a home to live in, clothes to wear, transportation.  I focus on learning something new today I didn’t know yesterday, being more generous today than I was yesterday and , being kinder today than I was yesterday.

Miss you dad/First Hand Account of History

Who would you like to talk to soon?

My response would have to be two-fold.  I would deeply love to have my father-in-law back with us for our daily text and meme exchanges.  It is a void that can’t be filled. And I would love to visit with historical figures and get their first hand account of history.  Paul Revere flying through the countryside in the dead of night, Harriet Tubman risking her life to be free.  The list is endless

Need a recipe?  Pretty sure I have a book for that!!!

Do you have any collections?

One of the activities I love to do when I have spare time is baking, cooking or canning!  Food is how I enjoy showing love and care for others. And I love collecting cookbooks especially finding old church ones at garage sales. Need a hot dish for a Lutheran church potluck?  Need a no bake cookie for the school fundraiser your child forgot to tell you about? Probably have a book for that 🤣

Inspired, Valued, Loved

What is the legacy you want to leave behind?

I want anyone that I leave behind to be left with the feeling of being inspired….inspired to be generous, kind to others, live a life of integrity and honesty.  I want them to have memories that anytime we were together they felt valued.  Most of all I would want my family to know how deeply they were loved.

Monday May Musings to inspire

Happy Monday Everyone! It’s hard to believe we are fast approaching the final days of May! Where is 2024 going? This will be a lighthearted fun post with a quick, healthy recipe, inspirational quote and a fun life hack!

If you are like me, I am not a fan of cooked vegetables. I will eat raw ones all day long. Here is a delicious way to add some greens to your diet!

Blueberry-Spinach Smoothie. Take 1 cup of frozen blueberries, 2 cups of spinach, washed and patted dry, 1/2 cup of nonfat plain Greek yogurt, 1/2 cup 100% apple juice, 1 teaspoon honey. In a blender, add the blueberries, spinach, yogurt, apple juice, and honey, and blend until smooth. Pour into a tall glass and serve. (Tip: to keep it healthy, when buying the frozen blueberries, read the label and make sure it has no added sugar by reading the ingredient list or looking for “no added sugar” on the label.)

Inspirational quote of the day: “You can never cross the ocean until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore.” (Christopher Columbus)

Fun Life Hack: If you need to freshen up the smell of a room, tape a fabric softener sheet over part of an air vent and let the fresh-scented air flow. (Tip: don’t completely cover the vent. Put the tape at the top of the sheet.)

I hope you enjoyed these Monday May Musings! I will return with another round of quick tips next week.

The Cold Weather Yes, the snow…not so much

How do you feel about cold weather?

Having grown up in western New York and then having lived in Minnesota for 20 years, I have had my fill of cold weather. I prefer it over hot temps any time. The air is fresh, I can breathe and think. However, I have gotten to where I dislike snow.  . shoveling it, driving in it, watching others try to drive in it 😂
