Ethics and Integrity in Business: Why They Matter More Than Ever

Two principles that have been on my mind and heart lately are ethics and integrity. I have seen first hand the effect when these become negotiable and expendable.

Whether you are a sole proprietor or an LLC, ethics and integrity should be non-negotiable. This applies to an independent contractor or a huge organization. They are essential for any individual or organization of any size.

Ethics refers to the moral principles that guide decision-making, doing what is right, fair and responsible.

Integrity is the consistency of those principles in action; making ethical choices even when no one is watching.

Together, they form the foundation of trust. Without trust, no individual or business can sustain meaningful relationships with customers, employees, partners or community.

Be transparent in all aspects of business. Transparency fosters honesty.

Treat other people, customers, employees, and partners with respect and equality. Fairness builds a sense of justice that strengthens relationships and morale.

Integrity means applying values evenly, not selectively. Ethics should never change based upon profit margins or convenience.

Purpose to be a person or leader that sets the tone. Determine to demonstrate everyday integrity. Do the right thing for everyone, everyday, every time.
